Construction Services in Charlotte & Union County

Every service on this page runs on the same design-build process, from a one-day roof to a ground-up commercial building.

One Contractor for the Whole House

Up To Date Construction Group is a licensed general contractor, not a roofing company that also does siding or a remodeler that subcontracts the roof. That distinction matters most on the jobs that look simple. A roof replacement on a 1980s house in Matthews turns up soft decking; a re-side in Mint Hill exposes rotted sheathing at the roofline; a kitchen renovation in Charlotte needs a wall opened and a beam sized. A single-trade company stops at the edge of its trade. We are the company the other trades call.

Every job, whatever its size, follows the design-build process the company was built on: a pre-construction phase where scope, budget and schedule are settled before work starts; a construction phase where subcontractors are sequenced and held to the plan; and a post-construction phase that ends with the site clean, the systems explained and a walkthrough with you. On a roof that takes a week from quote to close-out. On a custom home it takes months. The discipline is the same.

Quotes are written and itemized. The roofing quote names the shingle, the underlayment, the ventilation components and the per-sheet price for decking. The siding quote names the product, the weather barrier and the trim. If you take our quote to another contractor, they should be able to price the same scope line for line, and if they cannot, that tells you something about their quote.

Where We Work

The office is at 8018 Stinson Hartis Road in Indian Trail. From there we cover Union County (Indian Trail, Stallings, Weddington, Waxhaw, Monroe), the eastern and southern side of Mecklenburg County (Charlotte, Mint Hill, Matthews) and Cabarrus County (Harrisburg, Concord). We have also built in South Carolina. The service-area pages say what we see most in each town and which office permits the work there.

Choosing

Repair, Replace, Renovate or Rebuild?

The question behind most first calls. Here is how we think about it.

Repair when the problem is local

One leak on a roof under fifteen years old, one cracked run of vinyl, one soft board of trim. If the rest of the assembly is sound, a repair is the honest answer and we quote it as one.

Replace when the assembly is done

Widespread granule loss, curling shingles, hardboard siding that is swelling in more than one place. Repairs on a failed assembly buy months, not years, and the money is better spent once.

Renovate when the structure is worth keeping

A sound frame on a good lot is worth more than it looks. Renovation and additions keep what works, fix what does not, and cost less than starting over.

Rebuild when the numbers say so

Sometimes the structure, the layout or the site make renovation a poor investment. We will say that plainly and price a new build under the same contract.

Every job

What Comes With All of It

  • A written, itemized quote. Products named, quantities stated, allowances for hidden damage priced before we start.
  • The permit and the inspection. Pulled through Union County, Mecklenburg County (LUESA), Cabarrus County or the city with jurisdiction, and closed out before the invoice is final.
  • The owners on the job. The people who quoted it manage it, and the final walkthrough is with them.
